Sugar Tax Levy – How Will It Effect Me?

  • News

The Sugar Tax for the UK starts today!

What is it? How does it affect you?

The Sugar Tax or Soft Drinks Industry Levy imposed on 06/04/2018 will be paid by manufacturers of soft drinks.

The levy is applied only to products containing more than 5 grams of sugar per 100ml of drink.
Many manufacturers have reformulated their drinks or like Coca-Cola who brought out three new soft drinks to combat the levy.

Manufacturers like Britvic, Cawston, AG Barr, Nichols, Fevertree and more have reformulated their drinks to avoid the levy.

The levy has two rates.

The first, 18 pence per litre if the drink has 5 grams or more of sugar per 100ml.
Secondly, 24 pence per litre if the drink has 8 grams of sugar or more per 100ml.
Pure fruit juices are exempt if they do not contain added sugar.
Also exempt are drinks containing 75% or more of milk.
Diet and sugar-free drinks are also exempt from the levy.

NVCS Ltd, will not be paying the tax directly, as we are not a manufacturer but, as manufacturers pass on the increased costs so will many suppliers and vending companies.
